The process began with the development of a collection of core illustrations inspired by elements commonly associated with spring and cherry blossoms. This ensured visual balance across layouts while preserving the softness and elegance associated with the season. The sakura blossom served as the foundation of the visual system. Individual petals became modular graphic elements, adding rhythm and depth across layouts, while complete blossoms were reimagined as product frames. Subtle variations in composition allowed different versions of the masthead to be created for various applications while maintaining a unified visual identity. Formiga Bold was selected as the primary display typeface for its soft, playful curves, which echoed the organic qualities of the sakura motif. The letterforms were further refined through customised spacing and adjustments to their counterspaces, resulting in a distinctive typographic expression unique to the campaign. The use of “Collection” instead of “Series” was a deliberate shift influenced by fashion’s seasonal collections, positioning the beverages as curated, premium highlights while presenting CHICHA San Chen’s dedication to quality ingredients through a refreshed visual approach. Intentionally avoiding purple to break away from mundane representations of taro, the campaign adopts a beige-pink tone closer to the natural colour of taro to stay true to its origins. This was paired with a vibrant shade of orange to complement the festive Chinese New Year season. Two sets of playing cards were designed for the campaign, each with its own visual approach. The first design features a custom tile developed as a modular unit, allowing the cards to form a tessellation of horses when arranged together. The second adopts a modern pattern approach, using soft gradients and minimal detailing on the horse. The playful omission of the "l" in "Cultural” symbolises the fading presence of tradition in today's fast-paced world, serving as a reminder to keep it alive through style. The approach of the logo centered around “%” as its core visual. While the idea of the “%” acting as a logo was adored, we believed that as a new brand, the full name should be spelled out for a stronger recall. The parent brand, Crafty Crafty’s logo received acclaim for its ownability, so we retained some of its essence. Check out Crafty Crafty’s case study here. We applied this methodically to the “C” in Cultura. It was created and scaled with a perfect circle and was divided perfectly into a ratio of 8:2. Founded in 2021 as a subsidiary and investment arm of Singapore’s only homegrown consumer electronics chain, Challenger Technologies, the brand builds on the strong legacy of Challenger Technologies, which has been established since 1982.
